This notice describes how the Chest app and chestapp.io handle information. Contact the Chest team at support@chestapp.io with questions or account requests.

Your local chess workspace

Games, imported PGNs, variations, and app preferences are stored on your Mac. Stockfish play and engine analysis run locally. Creating an account does not automatically upload your games to Chest.

Accounts

If you create an account or sign in, Supabase processes your email address, password credentials, account identifier, authentication activity, and session information to operate and secure your account. Account requests also expose connection information such as your IP address to the service. We use this information for sign-in, confirmation, recovery, account support, and security.

Chest keeps its desktop session in operating-system-protected storage when that protection is available. Signing out removes that Mac's stored session. It does not delete your account or local games.

Account and support emails

Resend processes recipient addresses, message contents, and delivery information for account emails. Open and click tracking are disabled for Chest's sending domains. If you contact support, Resend stores your email address, message, and any attachments so the Chest team can respond.

Optional online features

The current app's optional Gemini coach uses an API key you supply. When you send a coach message, your question, conversation history, and relevant chess position/game context are sent to Google's Gemini API. That service handles those requests under its own terms and privacy policies.

Online endgame-tablebase lookups send the position to the Lichess tablebase service. These online services also receive connection information such as your IP address. Optional camera-based controls process camera input locally. Enabling Chest's local MCP connection lets your chosen client access the chess information exposed by that connection.

This website

Vercel hosts chestapp.io and processes request information, including IP addresses and browser information, to deliver and secure the site. Chest does not install advertising trackers or analytics cookies on this website.

Service providers and storage

We use Supabase for accounts, Resend for email, and Vercel for the website. These providers process information to supply their services and may process it in countries other than your own. See their privacy notices: Supabase, Resend, and Vercel.

Local workspace data stays on your Mac until you remove it. Account information remains while your account exists. Support messages and operational records are retained as needed to provide support, maintain security, and meet applicable obligations, subject to the providers' retention settings.

Your choices and requests

You can use local chess without an account, sign out, and choose whether to use optional online features. Email support@chestapp.io to request access, correction, or deletion of account information. We may need to verify your identity before completing a request. Removing an account does not remove files or game data stored on your Mac.

Changes to this notice

We will update this page when Chest's data practices change and revise the effective date above.
